Based in South Banks House, a beautiful 18th century country house by the sea with stunning views over to the Isle of Arran and featuring a unique rock cliff garden and pond. Located in the hamlet of Portencross (Ayrshire, Scotland) as featured on the 2004 BBC ‘Restoration’ programme (Portencross Castle). See www.portencrosscastle.org.uk for more info.
South Banks is very well appointed in country house style and offers elegant, comfortable accommodation for up to for up to 9 people in 3 double/twin rooms and 3 single rooms. Dine in style and enjoy the Arran sunsets. The house is fully heated and also boasts several log fires. Linen and towels are included. Non-painting partners are very welcome and there are many interesting places to visit nearby.

This holiday
is suitable for all skill levels, working in any medium. The proposed
timetable is very flexible depending on the weather:
Friday: Access to house from 3pm, with time for a walk
to the harbour before afternoon tea around 4pm. Followed by our first
visit to meet your tutor and discuss your itinerary. Our
day will end with a three course evening meal prepared for 8pm approx.
Saturday: Breakfast at 9am. Exploring the garden and
house with sketchbook and camera. Lunch at 1pm. Walk down to Portencross
Castle and harbour for more outdoor work in the garden. Back to the house for afternoon tea in the garden, with dinner prepared for 8pm approx.
Sunday: Breakfast at 9am. Down to the shore to capture
the beauty of Arran. Lunch at 1pm. Work in studio or outside on seascapes
and landscapes. Finish with afternoon tea at 4pm. Departure 5-6pm.
In General : - We will sketch outside as much as we can and enjoy studio
workshops to fit in with weather conditions.

For non painting partners, activities available in the area include golf (West Kilbride Golf Course within walking distance, also Troon is very near), gardens, castles, sailing, pony trekking, fishing and beaches.
There is a fascinating walk through the garden to the top of the cliff and onwards to Auldhill, the site of an iron age fort with a magnificent 360° panoramic view.
